The 2020 Cannes Vieux Port & Port Canto Yachting Festival has unfortunately been cancelled due to a prefectural dispensation not granted.
The event, that was meant to be taking place from the 8th – 13th September, undertook a rigorous sanitary plan with a series of additional health and safety measures. These measures were deemed ‘satisfactory’ during a meeting on the 17th August in the presence of the prefectural authorities the city of Cannes and the Regional Health Authority (ARS). However, the prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes, who were the only ones empowered to rule ultimately, decided against granting the dispensation to allow the Yachting Festival to go ahead.
As we all know, Coronavirus has had a huge affect on people and businesses all over the world, and the nautical industry is, unfortunately, no different. The decision that was made not allowing the festival to go ahead, was not questioning the protocals put in place for the event, but it was due to the recent deteriation of the health situtation in general and in Cannes in particular.
You can learn more about this decision here.
